THE KOSOVO APPEAL CD

IMPORTANT

This CD has material on it which still remains under the copyright of the original companies and authors. Anything marked in this way (normally in the FullBlown directory) must not in anyway be copied, distributed or disassembled in any way, shape or form. To do so will result in possible prosecution by the companies involved. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!

The CD

At the very start of 1999, Nexus Press decided to pull the plug on the only other non subscription Acorn magazine, Archimedes World (or latterly called just Arc World). Tau Press (publishers of Acorn User) was offered and subsequently bought the title. Effectively, it sunk without trace.

Back in 1995 though, AW did bring out a CD which had the fun bit on it of a pile of sound samples (which no-one listened to!). A second was planned for 1998, but never appeared.

Steve Turnbull of Tau Press was approached for permission to re-release the original CD and the other cover discs for the CD which was duely granted. (A full version of what happened is in the current edition of AU).

Further companies were contacted and with their agreement, their software was included. Next was the Public Domain. A quick plonk through my harddrive and CD collection proved worth while and these were added...... In all, the CD ran to 585Mb (or about 600Mb if you take 1Mb = 1000K instead of 1024K which it should be) and here's what's on it.

Applications

Tonnes of useful apps such as Stripper, LinReg and a few other bits and pieces

ArchimedesWorld_CD1

A copy of the original CD with a couple of changes (all software tested to see if works on a SA RPC)

ArchimedesWorld_CD2

All the cover discs from October 1995 until January 1999

CommercialDemos

What compilation CD would be complete without a pile of demos from companies?. Well, this is no exception.

FullyBlown

There is nothing worse than being given a taster of a program, only to find that you can't get it to save or print or something like that, well, with the power of nice emails, I've been able to include the following full versions of programs.....

For CC's customer support and upgrades for Clares software, your addresses will be sent to them. Only those on the lists will be entitled to software support and upgrades.

Compression

Some of the best compression software available in the Acorn world. Make your own self extracting archives with Dicottery and MAKELSFX, there are the Acorn ports of the InfoZip software, SparkPlug and SparkInfo.

Games

A great big wodge of games which will work on all the Acorn range of machines. It includes Asylum, JetPac, Monopoly, Xor, Bunny Race, Pinball Wizard and Polltax, not to mention another 12 games as well!

Graphics

Brilliant software such as Draw+, Draw->WMF, KwikJPEG, MultiShow and Tiffin (TIFF to Sprite converter) and some exclusive clip art.

Lurking on my harddrive were a pile of scans from the RSC and TimeLife period table of elements poster which I was given permission to use. As long as they remain as sprites and not converted to any other format usable by other formats, or for commercial gain, you are free to use them. Though scanned in 32K colours, a 256 colour directory version is also included.

Internet

Browsers : ArcWeb, Webite and Webster - the forerunner to R-Comp's WebsterXL

Software : All sorts of really good stuff such as AntUtils, PopStar, Imagen, WebGet, Validator (HTML checker), Richard Goodwin's HTML3 as well as a pile of other HTML writing, checking, uploading and other internet related goodies.

Science

Fancy using your computer for something other than playing Doom on? Well, here are some of the best pieces of Acorn science and maths software around. There is software covering the periodic table, Simpson's rule, molecule drawing software, the full version of RLaB2 (which will work from the CD!) and quite a bit else.

Utilities

Some really useful software such as RealAudio, VZap 1.33, BlackHole2, PDF, PhotoFiler, WinEd and CDViewer

Website

The complete comp.{binaries/sources}.acorn website archive. It contains such lovely stuff as the final Acorn versions of the font manager, Window Manager and other upgrades, antivirus software, C tutorials, CD software (and other general computer utilities), the latest version of Clares WimpBasic2 runtime modules (2.08) and one or two other gems (such as Mr Matt, Elite, Socketeer, InterGif (5.06), Guavac, DiscCommander, Lister and load and loads more!)

Zap142

The latest beta version of the wonderful text editor

How do you get it

You can order the CD from any of the following places :

In all cases, the cost is £6.75p which covers postage and manufacturing costs. Anything left (which should be at least £5) goes to the Kosovo refugees appeal.

The CD will only be available until the RISCOS show in October this year, so get it quick!

When you contact any of the above, you will need to send the cheque to them made payable to Paul F. Johnson. This is then forwarded to me and I will send out the CD.

Even if you aren't bothered about the Kosovo situation, the CD is brilliant value, took ages to do and really, you could do with it, really!
